Well there are certain situations where you may need a lawyers, usually where the situation is not clear cut, and involves complex legal issues such as being sued, arrested, where you have suffered loss financially or physically.

Knowing when and how to consult a lawyer is important, in order to avoid unnecessary delays.

A lawyer can be very expensive as they base their fees on their time that they will or likely to spend on your case.

You need to decide what you need a lawyer for and if it is for any of the above cases. It maybe that you just need some preliminary advice in that you are thinking of suing someone or you need advise on employment issues and you are unsure what action to take. This will give you an overview on what action you need to take and whether you can deal with it yourself.

You need to be prepared before you contact a lawyer, decide on what you want to achieve from your lawyer, have questions ready as I stated before their fees are billed on an hourly basis. There are different types of lawyers out there, they will probably tell you if they do not specialize in the area of law that you require advise in, it is better to know this before you enter his/her room.

If you have decided that you do require a Lawyer you must act quickly as in some cases a lawyer will have to meet deadlines in order for you to even have case. That is why it is imperative that you make quick informed decisions. The solicitor will advise you on whether you have a case, what your options are given your outcomes. just be clear on what you want to achieve, remember they are working for you.

There is a wealth of online information out there, you just need to take some action to find out the information.

Certain situations where I believe you can deal with things yourself are Power of Attorneys, name changes, incorporation, there are documents online that you can download and submit to the courts or to the state only incurring a fraction of the cost. Get your Legal Documents Online for up to 85% less than Lawyer Fees
Most business use lawyers when there are problems, law suit under employment law, product liability, personal liability. A lawyer acts in your best interest, but it would be helpful if the business or at least their managers knew a few things about the legal side of business.

Mr/Mrs Know it all!!!

Admittedly, to own and run your own business you need to know a lot. However, you can’t know everything and believing someone else situations will help your circumstances is not productive. The purpose of retaining a lawyer is to ask them what needs or could be done in a situation or a potential problem.

Trying to solve a situation yourself can quite often lead to the problem worsening, which then involves your lawyer spending more time and effort sorting the matter out, then what would have originally taken.

Have a lawyer that will tell you what is correct

The whole point of having a lawyer, is that they will give you an objective view on matters by providing the pro’s and con’s of a given situation. It helps no one to have a lawyer who only sees or agrees with your side just to keep you happy. They do not make good lawyers as they can not cover all the angles to help you to be successful in your business.

Let them know that you need help or advise.

Instead of having a lawyer butting in, in your negotiations to advise you ad – lib, is better to ask their advise before you go into your meeting having discussed the full situation with your lawyer. This makes you more knowledgeable and inevitable you will come across as if you know what you are doing. Which is ultimately better for you.

If you are unsure what to say or do why don’t you let your lawyer take over they are not there to make you look inadequate, they are honestly there to protect your best interest. As your success is ultimately their success.

Clients often forget that there are client-attorney privacy laws and that no one else has the right to know what the two of you speak about. You’ve hired an attorney; you pay your attorney, so use your attorney when you need to.
